Abstract

This study examined ethical finance with emphasize on the empirical assessment of Islam bank and conventional banks’ financial performance in Nigeria. Data were extracted from the financial statements of the banks for the period 2015 to 2016. Financial ratio analysis approach was undertaken to empirically assess the performance of the banks. The findings indicates that conventional banks performed better than Islamic bank in terms of return on asset, earnings per share and cash flow per share while Islamic bank performed better than conventional banks in terms of net income margin, debt ratio, asset quality, capital adequacy and liquidity. It is therefore recommended that the Central Bank of Nigeria should come up with workable, effective and attractive policies to encourage more development of Islamic banks in Nigeria.
